Java: Hello World

In this tutorial we will create the simplest of Java applications, an app that prints customary "Hello World" to the console.

Create new application module:

  • FILE > New Module...
  • Select Maven Module

Create new Java class "HelloWorld.java"

public class HelloWorld {
   public static void main(String[] args) {
      String myText = "Hello World!";
      // print to console
      System.out.println(myText);
   }
}

Run the app:

/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_20.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -
Hello World!
Process finished with exit code 0
